In a dazzling display of unity and celebration, Project Pride SRQ marched in the St. Pete Pride Parade, proudly carrying a portion of the Grand Flag—a 700-foot progressive rainbow flag. This event, one of the largest of its kind, expected over 300,000 attendees, creating a vibrant tapestry of color and joy that flowed through the streets of St. Petersburg.
The festivities kicked off at 5:30 PM with the Trans March, a powerful prelude to the main event. By 6:00 PM, the St. Pete Pride Parade was in full swing, with Project Pride SRQ and our portion of the Grand Flag becoming a highlight for many spectators. The flag, symbolizing inclusivity and the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ rights, waved proudly above the diverse crowd, a beacon of hope and progress.
North Straub Park served as the heart of the celebration, hosting the main stage with headliner Saucy Santana. The park buzzed with activity, featuring a food court, glamstands, over 100 vendors, live music, a beverage garden, and more. Attendees could secure their spots in the Glamstand or Private Viewing Area, ensuring a premium experience of the parade’s spectacle.
The participation of Project Pride SRQ in this event underscored the unity and strength of the LGBTQ+ community in Sarasota and beyond. Our presence, coupled with the symbolic Grand Flag, served as a powerful reminder of the progress made and the journey still ahead in the fight for equality and acceptance. The St. Pete Pride Parade, with its record-breaking attendance and lively atmosphere, remains a testament to the enduring spirit of the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
